Romanian Chamber of Deputies votes to amend the nation’s Constitution to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman

With 232 votes in favor out of 270, Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of Romania votes to amend the nation’s Constitution to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman – and also for the strengthening of parental rights.

The revised Article 48, Paragraph 1, of the Constitution of Romania, as proposed by the Citizen’s Initiative states: “The family is founded on the freely consented marriage between a man and a woman, their full equality and the right and duty of parents to ensure the upbringing, education and instruction of children.”

We are now just one step away from the nationwide referendum: the Senate has to vote as well.

Praise God for ever more!

A brief reminder: This is a citizen’s initiative and not a „political” one. The Coalition for Family secured roughly 3 million signatures instead of 500.000 required to promote the initiative to Parliament. Also, Constitutional Court of Romania unanimously approved the measure for ballot status. Read more here.
